That ploy appears to be backfiring. Trump operates on the principle that ‘all publicity is good publicity’. His political life is dependent on being in the public eye virtually 24/7. The major networks—which still get major viewership and, nota bene, this includes Trump-centric Fox—are threatening to pull that plug. Here’s Brave AI—which somehow failed to note that this is happening with the arrival of Xi Jinping scheduled for Thursday: All five major U.S. television networks (ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, and NBC) have suspended their pooled coverage of President Donald Trump. This collective action, effective Monday, September 21, 2026, means no mainstream TV camera will cover the president’s official events or travels, a first in White House history. In fact, we’re already seeing the blowback: The suspension is a direct response to the Trump administration’s abrupt ban on CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House grounds, announced by Trump on Friday, September 19. After the White House removed CNN from its assigned rotation as the primary TV pool representative for the day—including coverage of Trump’s trip to the United Nations General Assembly—the other networks refused to replace it. Presumably Trump thought that by making an example of CNN and Politico he would be able to bully the networks into providing “good” coverage of him as the elections approach.
